Drop Line opens at Dollywood

Funtime has completed an installation of its Skyfall drop ride at Dollywood, Tennessee.

The ride, named Drop Line, is a 262ft (80m) tall drop tower, that can seat 24 passengers per ride and accommodate 700 riders per hour.

Drop Line is designed to offer the rider a sightseeing and thrill seeking experience. The seats complete two full rotations of the tower as they ascend, offering the passengers an ‘unparalleled’ view of the surrounding Smoky Mountains and sweeping views of the park.

The tower has replaced the Timber Tower attraction located in the Timber Canyon area of the park and has become something of a new icon for the property.

Funtime created a custom embed and bottom section of the tower, utilising the existing foundations from the Timber Tower, and reportedly saving Dollywood a significant amount of money in the process.

Ride Entertainment’s installation division were also involved in the installation of Drop Line.

Gene Scherrer, general manager at Dollywood, says: “Drop Line is the perfect new attraction for Dollywood. We have a number of unique rides, but this one is unlike anything else here. Our guests will have a chance to enjoy the beautiful Smoky Mountain scenery as they rise up the tower, but once they get to the top, the anticipation of the drop will certainly create memories they’ll remember for quite some time.”

Adam Sandy, Ride Entertainment’s chief business development officer, says: “Dollywood has been a great showcase for Ride Entertainment and its partners. We have been working with Herschend Family Entertainment for over a decade and they continue to amaze us with the creative theming concepts they come up with for our hardware.”
